When it comes to breastfeeding products, there’s always been one brand that immediately comes to my mind: Lansinoh. From nipple cream to milk storage bags, Lansinoh have made products that I’ve used since the very early days of becoming a mum. And now they’ve kindly asked me to review their electric breast pump that they’ve very aptly named the Compact Single Electric Breast pump. It’s part of the exclusive Combi breast pump kit with Boots. So here’s my review.

Review of the Lansinoh Compact Single Electric Breast Pump

Before I get into the pump itself, I thought I’d tell you a little bit about where I am with my breastfeeding journey. As of this writing, I am nearly 30 weeks pregnant, and as such my milk has dried up due to the pregnancy. But prior to that, I had been breastfeeding my daughter for around 27 months. It’s been two weeks since I last breastfed Isabelle, but our breastfeeding journey isn’t over. Far from it.

I absolutely plan to tandem feed – should Isabelle want to – when our next baby is born. At the moment I’m trying to talk to Isabelle about my boobs and how the milk will come back for her and her baby brother and how she will able able to share the boobie milk. She’s even decided which one she thinks will be for him and which one will be hers. So for me, this is currently more a product that I’ll be able to use in a few months time rather than right now. Although I did give it a go when it was first sent out and my milk was still in supply.

I guess I just wanted to be totally honest with you that as I’m writing this I am not someone who is able to effectively use this product, but will do so in the future and have used it in the past. Anyway, on with the actual review!

What You Get With Lansinoh Compact Single Electric Breastpump

Essentially, what you get with this Lansinoh breast pump is the pump itself – obviously – and a bottle in which to collect all the milk. The milk can either then be deposited into a milk bag, or conveniently turned into an actual feeding bottle as it comes with a teat.

Truth be told, it’s not something I would personally need myself, as we never used a bottle with Isabelle, but if you are expressing for bottles then it’s an added extra!

I’ve only ever used breast pumps to build up a milk supply for later use. For example: when I went back to work. But it’s also handy to have a supply in the freezer in case of emergencies.

Taking a look at the Lansinoh Electric Breast Pump

The very obvious first thing you’ll notice with this product is its size. Compared to most other pumps on the market it is very small. For that reason, it’s going to be great in regards to being able to easily take it wherever you are going.

By no means is it untransportable. To be able to use this breast pump somewhere without a main power supply you would require a power bank that you would have to buy separately.

In regards to the pump itself, it has 5 adjustable suction levels so you can find what works best for you, it’s very easy to clean – which is always handy! – and it has an LED back light so you know what suction level you’re currently on. If you purchase this kit from Boots, you’ll also get something else thrown in too.

The Lansinoh Breastmilk Collector

Lansinoh also have a Combi breast pump kit that they’ve launched exclusively with Boots. Some might say it’s one of the essentials for breastfeeding. In that kit, you also get the breastmilk collector. This isn’t actually something that would come with the pump if you were to buy it from Amazon. But, you can of course buy it from Boots as a set, or separately on Amazon.

Quick note: It’s cheaper if you buy them separately from Amazon. But shhhhhh!

All the collector does is essentially attach to the boob that you are not expressing from during a pumping or feeding session to collect any excess milk that may come out of your other breast. As most new mums are likely to know, your breast does like to leak, so why waste the milk when you can collect it in this?

Why Choose the Lansinoh breast pump?

These days when it comes to electric breast pumps there’s actually quite a lot of choice on the market. I’ve even reviewed another pump myself. So why would you want to buy this breast pump from Laninsoh as opposed to going elsewhere?

First thing first, it’s one of the cheapest electric breast pumps on the market. Usually, you’d be very lucky to find a new one for sale that isn’t at least over the £100 mark.

After that, it all depends on what you require from your breast pump. If you wanted one that can double pump, then naturally the Compact Single Electric Breastpump isn’t going to be for you.

If you are solely expressing, for example, I would imagine you might want to go with a double pump to be more efficient. But if you merely wanted to build up a stash, and perhaps wanted something to use whilst feeding, then this might be a great option for that. It’s small, quiet and efficient at what it does. And certainly one of the better options for those on a budget.

Manual Pump vs Electric Breast Pump

As I have done a lot of both in the past, I thought I’d just briefly talk about manual pumps vs electric pumps when it comes to expressing.

To be honest, the only reason I can think of as to why someone would pick a manual pump against an electric breast pump is the price. And I completely understand. Back in the early days of having Isabelle we just didn’t want to pay upwards of £100 for an electric breast pump. At least with this Lansinoh pump price isn’t as big of a deal. Yes, it’s more expensive than a manual pump. But it’s only when you actually use an electric pump that you realize just how much more efficient, convenient and time-saving they really are. Trust me!

Summing up the Lansinoh Compact Single Electric Breast Pump

I always want to be as transparent as possible with what I write on this blog and what I say on Instagram. If I’m not, then what’s the point. But it’s very hard for me to fully endorse this product. Yes, it has some very good aspects to it. I love the fact it’s affordable and compact, and I really hope something like this encourages more mums to continue breastfeeding.

But the fact that this pump still requires a mains power supply – or a power bank – does mean that you don’t gain as much as you really could had it been a rechargeable unit.

It also only comes with one size flange. I have used other pumps in the past that have come with an array of different size flanges as they aren’t always a case of one size fits all. We all have different nipple sizes and it might be down to chance whether this one fits yours perfectly. I honestly think you would be able to get by anyway, but you might lose some efficiency and comfort that you may be able to get with a correctly fitted flange.

So with all that considered, I do think this is a decent product. I just think it could have been made a little bit better.
