I think I should come clean right from the get go with this post: I’m 29. Perhaps I’m the wrong person who should be talking about the wonderful world of mature dating. But, as a young married man, I’m well aware that given the current divorce statistics, there’s a slight chance that dating in my 60s might be a possibility.
It’s hard to imagine what the world of dating could be like in over 30 years time, but what I can do is talk about what it’s like in 2021 for anyone out there wondering if mature dating was for them.

Dating for the Over 60s: ANYONE of ANY AGE can date
Look, let’s be real about this, we all know that there’s someone out there for everyone. It doesn’t matter what age you are, there is 100% someone out there for you. Sure, I dare say the pool of choice is slightly smaller in the over 60s demographic, but guess what? This is 2021! If you’re diving into the over 60 dating scene then it’s not like you have to go hitting up the clubs to find someone. Just go online.
If Covid has taught the world anything in 2020, it’s how much we really do need technology to communicate. Many people who previously would have considered themselves a luddite before the first lockdown last year are now very much in know when it comes to FaceTime technology like Zoom. I dare say a good few people out there even had their Christmas via devices in some way. So making the transition to dating via technology should be a smooth one!
Just because we’re in Covid world, doesn’t mean dating has to stop
I always thought that by the time I hit my 60s – which is roughly 30 years away – the world of dating would be vastly different from what it is now. Who knows, we might not even physically go on dates that often in the future. It will all happen in some bizarre virtual reality with a VR headset.
But that’s almost happening RIGHT NOW.
Yes, Covid has completely changed so many areas of life that the world we live in now is almost unrecognisable to what it was like a year ago. And dating is no different. But just because you can’t physically meet up with someone doesn’t mean you can’t date.
I know what you might be thinking.
“I’m over 60, I don’t think dating is for me, let alone virtual dating.”
I hear you. I’ve only ever had ONE partner in my entire life. That’s it. If things went south in the future – and who knows, it might! I have had my “bad husband” moments – then I’ll have to dip my toe in the dating world. I’ll be nervous and at first I probably won’t want to do it. But I know I’ll owe it to myself to give it a go. At the end of the day, isn’t life about that excitement you get from connecting with someone? Don’t let age take that away from you, and for god sake don’t let Covid take that too!

Anyway, are you an over 60s yourself? What’s your experience with the world of online dating? I’d love to hear your experiences with this, and hopefully there are some positive examples out there of people finding love in their latter years. At the end of the day, love doesn’t care about age!
