What Is Goat Yoga?

Most of us probably thought goat yoga was a joke or quick fad when we first heard it, but it’s here to stay! It’s become very popular and a viral sensation in the yoga community, with sold-out classes nationwide.

We found that goat yoga makes for the ultimate relaxing yet energizing yoga flow. Keep reading to discover the benefits of goal yoga and why you should sign up for a class this week.

Defining It

We think it’s safe to say that a balanced vinyasa flow sequence can be one of the best ways to get your blood pumping. According to Tell Me More Golf, vinyasa yoga is a great practice for flexibility and mobility throughout your entire body. While cardio is there, a power vinyasa class can be the ultimate form of cardio. But when you add baby goats to a vinyasa class, the experience just gets even better.

Goat yoga was created on Instagram when a yogi named Rachel shared videos of her baby goat climbing over her back during her home practice. Shortly after, farms started offering goat yoga classes, and the trend continued to spread. Again, most people thought it was very funny and unusual but soon realized it was actually kind of fun.

In goat yoga, the poses are the same as in a standard vinyasa class, but you have little baby goats in the room with you. So while you will get a good workout, you will also have an added element of laughter and unpredictability with the goats. In this group vinyasa class, live baby goats are guided by their trainers to interact with students in specific poses. For example, if a student is guided into a tabletop pose (all 4/s) by their teacher, a train might gently instruct a goal to jump on their back. They also will generally wander about and on and off your mat during the class.

Benefits of Goat Yoga

Now, you might be thinking that this only provides a level of cuteness and play, but goal yoga has several benefits. It can be a physically challenging workout as goats can weigh up to 25 lbs, and this extra weight can be challenging to hold in a plank. Or a great ab workout if you are holding a boat pose. Another benefit of goat yoga is that it really makes you concentrate, which increases your balance and stability. Generally, you flow pretty fast through a vinyasa flow, but now with baby goats (and trainers) walking around the room, you have to really think about your next step and move.

We think the most significant benefit of goat yoga is that you are constantly giggling and just letting go. The mental aspect of goal yoga is brilliant in that the goats make you light-hearted and very relaxed. They allow you to disconnect from your day and truly enjoy some free time. Laughter, in general, significantly increases a happier mood and decreases your blood pressure. Goat yoga can be an excellent form of stress relief because it lowers cortisol levels and improves your dopamine and serotonin. These two hormones in your brain promote good feelings, positivity, and calmness.

Conclusion

We think it’s safe to say that goat yoga sounds fun, and we would recommend it for a try. There is nothing to lose! We hope you enjoy trying a new vinyasa class with goals and that you have some great laughs during it. Goat yoga can be a great form of self-care and an activity that you start to add to your weekly routine.
