In the UK we tend to get pretty lax with our sunscreen routine. Let’s face it, we don’t typically get a ton of sunny days for most of the year, do we? But with summer fast approaching and the UV index inching up each day, there’s no better time to add in some SPF to your routine. Keep reading to find out why we think Ultra Violette’s tinted sunscreen is the must-have product of the season and one of the best sunscreens in the UK right now.
What is tinted sunscreen?
Tinted sunscreen is essentially an SPF that has a bit of pigment in it for a sheer coverage of your skin. Think of the same amount of pigment that a tinted moisturiser would normally offer. It’s not a full coverage foundation by any means, but perfect for naturally looking, radiant skin. A tinted sunscreen is great to wear on weekends, to the beach or whenever you want a more natural-looking complexion.
Why we love Ultra Violette’s Daydream SPF50 Tinted Sunscreen
There are so many reasons why we love this silky dewy tinted sunscreen from Australian brand Ultra Violette! It’s so easy to wear every day when you feel like a ‘no-makeup-makeup’ look. We especially love that:
- It comes in 15 flexible and buildable shades
- It offers SPF 50+ protection
- Its sheer to light coverage
- Great for sensitive skin types
- UVA and UVB protection
- Oil-free, Silicone-free and Alcohol-free
Does tinted sunscreen replace regular SPF?
We hate to break it to you, but you still need to wear your regular SPF underneath a tinted sunscreen. Even though tinted sunscreen like Ultra Violette’s Daydream contains SPF50, it doesn’t mean you can go skipping your normal SPF routine.
The reason is that you’d be required to apply a huge amount of product to get the same level of protection as a normal SPF – and that’s a lot of makeup.
When it comes to Ultra Violette’s Daydream SPF though, the good news is they’ve designed it so you can get away with wearing half your normal skinscreen amount. Just remember to apply your regular SPF first followed by your tinted SPF.
When do we need to apply sunscreen?
It’s recommended to apply sunscreen whenever the UV index is 3 or higher. You can easily check this using the weather app on your phone. Hot tip – remember to check the UV index throughout the day as the UV levels in the morning will be way lower than what they will be during the middle of the day. This means you might think it’s safe to leave the house at 8am sans sunscreen but come 10am, the UV levels have increased and you really should be wearing SPF protection!
Our tip? Never leave the house without some SPF protection (and other suncare protection strategies like protective clothing)! If you find the right product that works for your skin, why wouldn’t you want to wear it every day anyway?!
How often do we need to re-apply SPF?
The golden rule is to reapply your sunscreen every two hours. That said, if you sweat or go swimming, you may need to reapply more frequently especially if you’re not using a water resistant sunscreen.
